Injection Mold Machine Tending
Challenge
This injection molding plant produces long parts in mold machines with large dies making it difficult for a person to unload. These parts came in many varieties. The nature of the part required a complex motion to remove it from the mold, ruling out simple pick & place units. Finally, the gate locations on the part were difficult to access for clipping.
Solution
A flexible 6 axis robot was put in place to perform both the unload and the de-gating process. Quick change tooling made the solution agile.

- A tool changer allowed the robot to swap grippers for different parts
- An outfeed conveyor accumulated parts for unattended operation
