Wind Deflector Assembly
Challenge
Manual handling and assembly of parts was acceptable to this manufacturer, but they needed a way to control process variation and ensure that non-conforming parts were captured.
Solution
A semi-automatic assembly station was built. The station relies on the operator to perform the assembly functions, but the process steps are monitored to ensure a quality part. Non-conforming parts are identified and trapped by the station.
Key Features
- Parts are clamped by a locating jig at the start of the operation
- Servo driven screw guns allow rapid assembly while monitoring torque and turns. The conformance of each fastening step can be monitored.
- The PLC on the station counts fastening steps and will only release the part from the jig if all steps were completed correctly.
